The parental sacrifice

The role of parents is very crucial for every child nurture, though some circumstances of life may deprive some of such prospect. Two loving and caring parents were very affectionate of their only son and they did everything in their power to provide for him at any expenses. The son grew under the protection of his parents love and care. Right from elementary school to senior high school, they made sure he gets quality education.

They said to themselves; “since we didn't get the opportunity of our own into education, let us create every opening for our son to make us proud”.

By the time he completed his senior high school, his father was now jobless, however the son wanted to pursue a career in medicine and he wanted it out of his country.

Well then, the money they saved for him was inadequate to cover his entire tuition fees, food and accommodation away from the country of his origin.

But the parents, with the little they had; they gave him a go ahead and they sponsored his trip and there he goes. After he left, his parents started to gather their heads on how they will sponsor his medical career forward.

Glory be to God, they came up with a solution to it.

The boy did very well in school and with the sustenance of his parents financially, he never be deficient in anything. His final year demanded that he fly down to his country for completion and graduation arrangements.

The time came and he landed from the far seas to his country and at this point; he had a girlfriend which he met at the medical school who happens to be the citizen of the same country with him.

The graduation ceremony was approaching and he asked his parents to prepare, though he wasn't happy with that decision for he thought his parents might humiliate him because he had a prestigious reputation from his friends.

The boy later changed his mind of inviting his parents into the graduation ceremony; he decided to postpone the exact date to his parents and hired people who will represent him well to the friends of his caliber which includes his self-acclaimed girlfriend.

He now had everything under his control but forgot one thing, which is to postpone the ceremony date to his parents.

The day of the ceremony came, and they were busy familiarizing each other outside, the boy presented the people he hired to his friends and girlfriend as his parents.  They then all moved into the prestige hall for the issuing of certificates.

Five minutes later after settling down, a man and a woman dressed in rag and uncertain old clothing, entered the place accompanied by a former graduate of the school who happened to be their neighbor back home, but the boy knew nothing about him.

It was then quiet for a second; everyone was astonished to see such classless people. The boy was flabbergasted also to see his parents at that disorder, he knew his parents to be affording but what he saw was devastating.

The parents sighted him and they couldn't hold back their joy after Seven years of his absence; they rushed to hug him.

The boy felt humiliated and he ordered for them to be taken out of the place that he doesn't know them they are just mad people who want to ruin his day, it was then so as he decreed; they were taken away.

The ceremony was over, and then he tried to manipulate everyone in there to forget about what happened. The boy couldn't go home to meet his parents after what has occurred, he stayed at his girlfriend's place and sometime later he got a job as a medical doctor.

He bought a big house, he got married and he forgot about his parents, he was living a good life with his wife.

Back home his parents became worried about their son's resentment towards them. The mother couldn't stand the pain of being rejected by her son, she became very weak as she had a kidney problem and she later died.

 Two days later his father also died of heart attack.

The boy received a call to inform him of the death of his parents, he then took his wife to attend the funeral. Now, during the process of the funeral, it was time to read the obituary.

One of the parents neighbors who knew them very well, stoop up to read it and it read as follows: "Mr. and Mrs. James are well known for their noble personality and the sacrifices they made for their only son's edification, Martin James.

Mr. Amos James worked as a heavy machine operator at S.T Industrial. He was then fired for missing work several times for the appointments of his son's education savings.

After his son's departure to overseas, both parents sold all their properties including their house to live in a horrible shack to sponsor their son's education; they went to the degree of selling some of their clothes to make a living.

Mr. James got a car accident on his way to deposit his son's money and he was operated next to his heart. He later died of heart attack.

During their life time, they cared less for themselves and all they could think about was their son's education. During her husband accident; Mrs. James was left alone to care for her husband hospital bills and their son's tuition expenses.

She then decided to sell one of her kidneys for donations to cover all the expenses at hand. During her operation; there were some complications and the other kidney was affected, she later died of kidney problem.

Both parents became poor so that their son can be rich, they lived in shame so that their son may be great and they sacrificed their own happiness so that their son may live happily.

Their deeds will always be remembered in the history of our community" thank you!! He then sat down.

Hearing all this, the boy was already lying down near his parents coffins with a heavy heart full of sorrow, grieve, pain and regrets. He craved they could come back to life so he can ask for forgiveness for his actions and to better their lives,  but it was too late; they have gone to the journey of no return.

 He had to live with regrets all his life and hope that the same fate doesn't visit his household.

The moral of this parable is that; where ever you go, remember where you are coming from. Some of our parents had to loose in order for us to gain, they had to step back in order for us to move forward.

 Always remember them in your paradise irrespective of their condition and pay them gratitude while they are still alive. 

 Despising people on an account of their weakness is arrogance, the present is not guaranteed and the future is mystery, which makes life unpredictable.
